About The Uniform Drive
In 2015, ARK launched a Uniform and School Supplies Drive initiative to support homeless youth attending the District of Columbia Public (DCPS) and Charter Schools. After completing a needs assessment, we found that homeless students often attend school with dirty uniforms or without a uniform at all.
DCPS policy requires students to wear uniforms to school daily. Furthermore, Code B2408.2(c) (1) and (d) (1) state “neatness and cleanliness; excessively dirty and/or torn clothing may not be worn in school.”
Through our initiative, we are able to support homeless students eliminate uniform barriers to ensure 100% focus on academic success.
*The chart above provides the number of students ARK provided uniforms and backpack with school supplies. We provided uniforms to schools across all 8 Wards, with Ward 7 and 8 being focus due to high poverty.
